It’s been snowing all week so there’s a nice layer of it which is beautiful as well as something to keep in mind when dealing with the car owner without a garage hell that snow is in this city. Moving it twice daily to let the snow plows do their job means sweeping the snow off of it, scrapping the ice of the windows and windshield, hoping it starts and the worst: finding another parking space…
Great?
Have you noticed how often I use the word “great” in these posts? It’s despicable, really, so many other great words to use:
brilliant, excellent, first-rate, outstanding, superb, virtuoso, best ever, daisy, dilly, exquisite, fine, gnarly, groovy, smashing, spiffy, super, unreal, wicked, wonderful….
Back Beats Galore
Monday I practiced my washboard with Bill who attempted to drill some rhythmic sense into my rhythmically dense brain.
It’s one of those things, behind me are two years of practicing that instrument that have made me actually think I could learn to play it properly – I never would have though I could do what I now can. On the other, all the future work necessary to actually start making music with it as opposed to just barely keeping a rhythm.
Snow, parking and the wind
It snowed Tuesday, Wednesday and even a bit of Thursday.
Snow brings its own little story here as the city officials try and juggle between the town’s finances, keeping the streets usable and the growing wave of civil disobedience among car owners.
This is how it goes:
Walking Blues
Here’s a map showing yesterday’s walk, one of the variations I can do directly from my house since I hate to drive somewhere to walk.
I like walking, it’s one of the best ways to let the mind wander, and it just so happened that yesterday it wandered towards a bit of pathway criticism.
My Cow Clementine
Many years ago I work in the Swiss alps doing odd jobs, cutting wood, caring for a bunch of chickens, sheep and a cow. Clementine was her name so this design is for her.
That winter (1977-78) had record snow falls, and shoveling snow turned into a daily activity. One sunny afternoon we cleared out a space in front of the barn to put the animals in while doing a major cleaning. We took for granted that the over 6 feet of snow would keep them from wandering off, a big mistake.
A Mid Summer's Interlude
Some pictures make you think about what came before the photo was taken and some make you wonder what happened after, and yet most just show a moment in time somewhere, somehow, for whatever reasons – meaningless for some but not for others.
