Tried to find a video from Blues Rules #2 where Hillstomp member John Johnson plays the washboard but the above will have to do and after all his buckets are just as cool; if not more! In any case the duo he makes with Henry Christian is one of the more exciting bands I’ve come across lately.
Deep Blues Festival 2011
Received this email the other day:
Dear Deep Blues Fan:
Maybe you’ve already heard, and if not, we think you ought to: the Deep Blues Festival is being revived this year with the blessings of the event’s founder Chris Johnson.
Deep Blues Festival 2011 will be held in Cleveland, Ohio, at the historic Beachland Ballroom on Saturday, July 16, featuring dirty roots music bands from across the country.
The bands, many of whom you already known, will play continuously on two stages from 5 p.m. until closing… etc… etc…
…so I’m passing it on and adding my two cents here…
Floyd Lee
It’s been a while since I’ve made it to New York so stumbling on a Floyd Lee video made me a bit nostalgic since listening to him play in the subway is one of the better things a visitor like myself can do in the big apple. (It sure beats doing the gallery scene!)
The last time I saw him I picked up his 2003 “Mad As Hell In Crappy Blues” CD which is a fun album
Romuald Popłonyk - Stripey Howling Hancock
Regular reader may remember last year’s post about The Stripey Brothers, who came busking down in Neuchâtel.
K.M. Williams and Washboard Jackson, Live at KNON, 9/17/10
Sitting on Top of the World
A little Sunday morning Trainreck. (K.M. Williams, Washboard Jackson).
IMHO it rarely gets better than this!
Sonny Terry's Washboard Band (With Bones!)
There I am trying to find information on the web for Washboard Doc, see my Doc, Flash, Lucky & Red – Pretty Woman post, and re-reading the Early Morning Blues record credits the following stands out: “His first recording was with bluesman Ralph Willis about 1950. About two years later he cut with Sonny Terry for a Folkways LP, playing washboards and spoons”. So I whip out my Sonny Terry’s Washboard Band CD== and once again go through the pdf file wondering if I missed anything…
Doc, Flash, Lucky & Red - Pretty Woman
These days however, it’s not like you can easily find it at your local record shop which is unfortunate but not surprising… So much great music from the past is lost in today’s consumers society.
