Messin’ Round has often played at the P’tit Paris, a cool café near where I live. In fact it was there that I heard Dave for the first time as well as debut my ongoing existence as washboard player wannabe a few month later.
What to do with an old bed frame...
Bill and I spent a few days last month building the “musical instrument” pictured here. The idea is that the spoons bounce off the strings at different speeds since they are attached to rods of different lengths. You push down on the tennis balls, release them and the spoon just bounces off the string, like boing, boing, boing accelerating as the spoon bounces less high and ending up with a fast little bing, bing bing that turns into nothing as the sound dies out.
A Pleasant Surprise
I wonder sometimes at the fact that I avoid commenting on my own art work here. It’s all the stranger, to me at least, that I have no such qualms about my washboard playing activities. This even with the fact that I perfectly know how limited my ability at scratch, rattle and rolling this greatest of percussion instrument is; and how greater my possibilities as an visual artist are.
But perhaps that there is part of the reason and not that strange after all.
Meanwhile In Auckland...

What a cool t-shirt! ;-)
Dave seems to have gotten over jet lag and was invited to “sit” in and play a few numbers with Indigo Blues; an Auckland based blues/rock band; playing Chicago/ British influenced music. They also enjoy blending the blues and Jazz with a wide spectrum of ‘good songs’.

I couldn’t find the band’s website so if you know it, post it! – Please – Dave reported the evening as being “Great Fun!”, and is hoping to find other musical venues. He was told that the summer was better, more festivals, but I’m not sure if that means he’s too early or too late…
(Dave’s travels will be categorized under both Crawfish and Messin’ Round for reasons I hope I have no need to explain)
Rattlebrained has moved... Here!
It is done!
All the posts I cared to keep have been moved here and Rattlebrained on blogger has been deleted! Poof!
:-)
The Return of the Serpent
Last night Bill and I went to the Café du Soleil in Saignelegier to listen to a concert by Linda Bsiri and Michel Godard. I did not know anything about these two musicians besides the fact that Godard would be playing a recently made copy of an ancient musical wind instrument; the Serpent.
Barrel Drums (bis)
Yesterday’s event went well but for the moment I don’t have any pictures to show and I’m sure it’s hard to imagine especially since my writing lacks the necessary skills for descriptions.
The weather was better than predicted since we expected rain and it was just a bit overcast, however a strong north wind was blowing and it was near zero degrees so most of our drumming probably ended up blown down the street. One of our worries was that the garbage trucks would make so much noise that all of ours would be covered, a needless worry…
