I wasn’t ready for the wave of emotion that hit me this afternoon when I heard on the radio that Mstislav Rostropovich had passed away. And there is simply both too much and not enough to say about him.
Best is to put on an old LP of Brahms double concerto, Op. 102. with him, Oistrakh, Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra recorded in 1970. One of my favorites.
