Playing Bones With Cisco

Pretty bad that my last post was over 2 month ago… but at least it gives today’s post a link of sorts since the concert I went to last Friday was organized by the Vully blues club and was the club’s thanks to all the members and volunteers who had helped out during the festival mentioned below.

And an enjoyable concert it was, given by French bluesman Cisco Herzhaft who played a variety of acoustic blues styles while also explaining a bit of the history surrounding each song. Both entertaining and interesting!

I admit that I’m always a sucker for certain songs regardless of who plays them, because my mom used to play guitar and sing for me and my siblings at bedtime. So once a song like Freight Train, as it was on Friday, or Midnight Special or one of a number of other tunes is on the program, my heart gets all fuzzy and I’m ready for a sing along… But Friday was really special because at the end Cisco invited Blaise and I up for a little jamming of which some can be seen above. We had know idea what he was going to play but as I came on stage I showed him my bones and asked him if he knew what they were.

“Of course” he answered, “a longtime ago I met musicians in Canada who played those”.

So I proposed he play a ragtime and I’d like to thank him again here for doing just that, great fun!

BTW: Friend Beat Lüthy has uploaded a bunch of other videos from the evening to watch.
