I sent yesterday’s Sound of Bones video to my friend Bill Holden another local American artist who is a Jazz musician and also organizes workshops for kids of all ages to create, and play, homemade instruments. He’s taught me a lot about rhythm, was an immense help in my learning how to play the washboard and in his own words: it seem he was born with a metronome in his head.
Nice! Too bad your face is chopped off.
I took a tour of some of the other bone players’ clips; if you have a chance, check out Greg Burrow’s solo No.2, the only player so far who can play a shuffle and NOT speed up! Great sense of syncopation!
So I did. Unfortunately it sounds like it was recorded through a long hose, but still, it is a great example of a shuffle played on the rhythm bones!
Here’s the link to Greg Burrows YouTube page Check it out, he’s a great percussionist!
FYI: Bill’s website is in French but if you go to the http://www.lasonorie.ch/site/index.php/des-instruments page and click on any of his young student’s names, you can see pictures of the instrument they made as well as listen to it by clicking on the “Ecoutez l’instrument…” link that is above the image.
