Organic Jug

Regular readers may remember “Messin’ Round”, the band that got me into washboard playing some 12 years ago; which after a few changes became the “Crawfish Blues Band”. Well I’m thrilled to be able to write that we, Dave – Bill and myself, are at it again!

This new trio has been named “Organic Jug”.

The name inspired me to write a little poem of sorts:

The Messin' Round Blues No More!

Last Friday we had a great evening at the Cyber Blues Bar in Bienne. A cool little bar with good music, friendly folks and great wine. If only we had a gig like that every week! The only apparent down was driving home at a snail’s pace in the rain, fog and snow at 2am.

Apparent because it seems that the evening also gave friend Bill time to consider his expectations and desires for the future and being occasionally blasted by loud Blues music wasn’t listed….

The Man Is Back!

Dave came back from his Kiwi escapade last week so I dragged him jet lag and all to the Babylone Bar‘s Thursday evening open stage where we joined up with Blaise and warmed up our chops for a grand audience of 3 or 4 poor souls who had nothing better do do on such a dreary wet night. at the Babylone Bar

Meanwhile In Auckland...

What a cool t-shirt! ;-)

Dave seems to have gotten over jet lag and was invited to “sit” in and play a few numbers with Indigo Blues; an Auckland based blues/rock band; playing Chicago/ British influenced music. They also enjoy blending the blues and Jazz with a wide spectrum of ‘good songs’.

I couldn’t find the band’s website so if you know it, post it! – Please – Dave reported the evening as being “Great Fun!”, and is hoping to find other musical venues. He was told that the summer was better, more festivals, but I’m not sure if that means he’s too early or too late…

(Dave’s travels will be categorized under both Crawfish and Messin’ Round for reasons I hope I have no need to explain)

Friday Night's Fish Fry

Friday night’s concert was the last until Dave comes back in the fall. Once again we played in our local joint where I first heard Dave and were we (Messin’ Round) first played before we really became a band. A good way to measure where two and a half years of washboard playing has led me.

Friday nights concert was a mixed bag, the worst thing for me was not being able to hear Dave’s guitar very well, or anything else for that matter. The sound was just not circulating in the corner I was in and my washboard covered most of what was there to hear, so it was pretty strenuous

Messin' Round Live

So this is the poster I made, based on a woodcut by my mom, for our concert her in town next week. As you can see it will take place at the a well known local cafe, where we have already played 3 or 4 times. So if you happen to be in town…

Blues in Paradise(io)

Yesterday afternoon I warmed up my washboard a bit before heading to Lausanne with Dave to meet Bill at the swiss public radio building. Dave who was carrying two guitars almost got stuck in the rotating doors so it was with high spirits that we entered the place, received our passes and were invited to proceed.
