So I proposed to Dave that we celebrate the first day of none smoking public spaces with a beer at the ABC’s café, our local cultural center, and as one thing led to another we decided that instead of rehearsing next Friday afternoon, we might as well find a place where we could play with a public. So I asked, and our wish was granted! We will be playing for tomorrow’s happy hours (5 to 7 pm – as if you didn’t know).

A truly amazing thing has happened this month: public spaces all became non smoking overnight! I was sure that this area would continue to let folks smoke everywhere until the end of time, just two years ago a local restaurant manager was booed out of her job for just thinking such a thing…
But with the help of lovely spring weather there we where Dave and I, in a corner cafe that was packed both in and outside enjoying a glass of wine…

Yesterday the vinyl banner I designed and ordered for the band came! I was worried about it because they are 44” x 30” (I stuck my 18 inch Zinc King washboard for scale) and didn’t know if the definitions of my image files was good enough to be blown up to that size. Happily they are since the banner really looks nice!
Even if it doesn’t make that much money, so far this whole store thing has been a positive experience. My writing and spelling skills have improved immensely…

Here’s a little sketch from last year. The train had stopped at a station (Aarau if I remember right), so I had a minute to draw this kid who was in a train going in the opposite direction. He was all up in green military dress and was sitting, knapsack on his knees, in the space in front of the doors instead of in the compartment with seats. He didn’t look too happy about going off and “serving” the country and it makes you wonder since there are now ways of avoiding it if you really want to…

As summer quickly approaches and music festivals here and there boast their lame forgettable star filled programs, stumbling on this video of The Brass Kings helped balance out the media’s hype. Not all is lost folks! …

You may recall that in FebruaryMark Staff Brandl invited me to remake an installation I had made for his Collapsible Kunsthalle. During my visit to that far away corner of North East Switzerland he interviewed me for Bad At Sports a Chicago based contemporary art website that offers a weekly podcast about contemporary art…

Yesterday Blaise and I headed over to Bonny B. Browns recently opened blues club for a first evening of open stage jamming.
If you have a warped mind like mine and that makes you imagine musicians climbing over, biting and bashing each other with their instruments for a place on the stage and holding their ground, playing as long as possible…

Last week Cafepress, the POD (print on demand) company were I have my main shop had a fit of megalomania. Since it probably appeared to them that designers are expendable, after all you get rid of one and there are a hundred waiting to fill the space, they decided that none of the designs they sell is worth more that 10% of the sales price. Yes folks, in a month that will be my meager cut for any item they sell for me through their all mighty marketplace…

So I’m slowly getting the hang of it and have started putting stuff on the shelves over at my new Rattlebrained Zazzle Store. I must say that there are a lot of things I really like over there…
