Every once in a when I’m practicing at home the lovely lady who shares her space with me will appear at the door and close it. Since it’s never clear how much my racket is bothering her, it was obvious she needed someway to communicate her feelings with me so I would know if it was one of these “closed door days” or not.
Aha! Or at least uh huh….
Yes, you guessed right. What better way than a t-shirt? (actually I can think of quite a few better ways of communication than a t-shirt, but that’s not here or there…

The other day coming home on the train I decided to attempt writing words for a blues for Crawfish to work on. However as it often happens, once I started the words decided for themselves where they wanted to go and I ended up stuck with a rhythm that had a lot more to do with Dr. Seuss than a blues. What can I say, we have the influences we have….

Unfortunately I should have gone out to take pictures last Friday since not only a lot of the snow has been removed this week but the temperature went up, it rained a bit and a lot of it melted. A friend sent me this link to an article about how mp3’s are changing the way we hear: The Sizzling Sound of Music. I say we, but admit to having no love of the mp3 format which sound flat, dull and compressed, especially if you compare it to a good LP. Yes, an actual vinyl record, exactly. I admit, I own quite a few of them, many bought back then when stores where making space for the all new “super sounding” compact disk. Thank you Mr. Cd!…

Since this blog is getting more visitors now I can help but wonder if there is a subject you (yes, you there), would like to hear more about?…

Yesterday, while we were setting up, warming up, getting the balance right, that sort of thing, Dave started playing this “new” tune…

BS: Tell us about your process. Perhaps you can discuss some of your current work and the process involved in creating those specific works?
SL: Most of my ideas come from the working at it and not the thinking about it. As I said, I need to stick things out in front of me and move them around until something clicks somehow, so I draw things I’m thinking of on leftover bits of paper, or on the computer to be printed, and leave them scattered around, visible to be picked up; a way to see what associations are raised when they are randomly placing side by side. I also have many stencils that I’ve made that can also be added to the mix.
I use repetition a lot, initially with the smileys it was a way to create the idea of a crowd or group of people while avoiding the need for explicitness…
